INVERLUSSA LAUNCH SCOTLAND’S FIRST SERVICE VESSEL CADETSHIP
After recently expanding into the wellboat market, Inverlussa Marine Services have launched a groundbreaking initiative to recruit cadets for formal deck and engineering training.
Cadets will have the chance to earn £1000/month during the 3 years of training which will comprise a mixture of both college and sea time. After this, successful cadets will achieve internationally recognised qualifications as either deck or engineering Officer of the Watch (OOW) and offered a full-time job with Inverlussa.
Ben Wilson, Inverlussa MD said “I believe we are the first service vessel company in Scotland to recruit cadets. It’s a significant investment, but contributing to the training of the next generation of seafarers is critical.”
Working alongside Stream Marine Careers in Glasgow to recruit the cadets, Inverlussa will sponsor them through the scheme by offering an increased training allowance as well as being able to gain sea time on Inverlussa’s fleet of vessels working around the west coast of Scotland, Orkney and Shetland.
Inverlussa plan on recruiting 3 or 4 cadets per year and applicants for the initial intake must be at least 18 years old before 1st January 2025, meet minimum entry requirements, including four Nat 5’’s at grade C or above in subjects such as Maths, English and a physical science.
Speaking about providing both practical experience and classroom learning to cadets, Crew Co-ordinator Fraser McKenzie said “The idea is to blend the two. You get the person with the certification, but also with a background in aquaculture and hands-on experience in the engine room or on deck, and within the work that we do.”.
